To shoot superb video nowadays, you need a very nice camera, at least, that’s what camera manufacturers want you to think. Sure, you get better quality the higher up you climb with a camera, however, achieving high quality video is something you can do with just what you have at hand. Whether you want to see if you really do need to get a better camera, or you just want to improve upon already good quality, I think that this information should be helpful!
Lighting. Your camera uses light to display an image that in turn will become what you see on your computer. If the shot is not getting enough light, your camera will have to adjust itself to get enough light, this can be a huge compromise to your video quality, and can be fixed by tweaking what you already have, or buying a lamp or some lighting equipment.
Make your video sound good This tip doesn’t really have to do with the visual aspect of video, but it is nonetheless important. Most cameras have a microphone built in that is at least acceptable, but some lower quality ones have terrible microphones. In the latter case I would recommend purchasing a cheap desktop microphone as this can do a whole lot with a small amount of money.
Know the ins and outs of video exporting The more you know about how to export and about video codecs, the better. Although each camera is different, exporting in Mpeg 4 is usually a good way to go, but just like my other tips, experiment!
High Resolution Videos look crisper YouTube now allows for video that has been exported in a resolution higher than 1080p. While you don’t need that kind of quality for a while, even 720p is pretty decent. Personally, I think 720p needs to be your minimum if your camera shoots in HD, and if it doesn’t, 480p is still a good idea.
Get to Know Your Camera Most cameras have some sort of manual settings, while some have 3, some can have hundreds. Find some of your settings and tinker with them, if you find something you aren’t familiar with, just look it up!
Use a Tripod For most indoor shooting, using a tripod can really help. Shaky videos sure aren’t fun to watch!
